International Day of Peace

If we are among the men of good will who yearn for peace, we must lay the foundation for peace ourselves, by working for the social world of the child.
— Dr. Maria Montessori

Today we joined a group of schools around the world participating in the International Day of Peace by singing "Light a Candle for Peace" in unison at our designated time.

Our celebration was held in honor of our beloved Mr. Skip and we also hope it will symbolize a new beginning, or a moment of peace, in our troubled times. Please enjoy the beautiful video and photos taken during our special event this morning.

New School Year

Our school year is off to a great start! The children are enjoying many new lessons as they engage with materials, learn classroom routines and make new friends. We look forward to watching them grow this year.

We must help the child act, think, and will for himself. This is the art of serving the spirit, and art which can be practiced to perfection only when working with children.

Mr. Skip

It is with saddened hearts we share that Mr. Skip passed this weekend.  Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers at this time. Mr. Skip’s family asked that we pass on this note to his La Print family regarding services:

"We are planning a "Sweet Remembrance" for our sweet Skip at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge  on Goodwood Blvd this Wednesday evening, August 24th, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Please bring any stories, pictures and remembrances and, if you feel so inclined, a small portion of something sweet to share.

Please share the post about the remembrance for Skip with anyone you know that also knows him."

Scrapbook for Mr. Skip

If you're unable to join the events on May 19th and would still like to participate, you can mail us a page for the Scrapbook we're assembling for him. The book will be presented to him at the Candlelight Ceremony.

When creating your page, please consider including photos of your child(ren) and/or your family as well as a few words or a letter addressed to Mr. Skip (i.e. memories, well wishes, expressions of gratitude). Pages will be placed in 8.5x11 protector sleeves (we will provide the protectors).

Some ideas for what you can do with your page are:

  • make a scrapbook page
  • write a letter
  • create a collage
  • design any creative page that will fit into an 8.5x11 page protector

Please mail your page to the school by Friday, May 13th. The mailing address is:

Spread the Love

During carpool times April 12-18, we will be collecting jars of peanut butter & jelly for local children in need.

The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank hosts "Spread the Love" each spring to restock shelves for the challenging summer months. As a school community we love participating in a campaign which particularly serves the needs of local children.

“We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are part of the universe and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.” ― Dr. Maria Montessori
